Growing cucumbers is relatively easy and most plants have a long life. The pH of the soil should be neutral to slightly alkaline. This is the best range for the plant. The soil should be well-drained to prevent rot and fungal diseases, which can kill the plants. Soils that are too clay-like are not good for growing cucumbers. Soft, organic-rich, slightly sandy soil is fine for these crops if they have plenty of nutrients.

The cucumber plants can be started indoors from seeds. Once the seeds are dry, they are ready for planting. The process of starting cucumbers from seeds is pretty easy. You will need to keep the seeds dry and mark them with the variety and date. Once they have dried, you can plant them outdoors. Ideally, you should plant the seedlings at least three to four weeks before the last frost.

After they have dried, you should start growing the plants from seed. To grow cucumbers, place the seeds in a paper envelope. Put a date and variety label on each packet. Once the plants are several inches tall, they can be transplanted to a larger area and placed in the garden. They will grow much faster than the original seeds. Once they are two inches tall, you can remove them.
