how to grow green onion

Growing green onions is not as difficult as you may think. In Ontario, the season runs from June to mid-November.

These delicious bulbs add colour and flavour to all kinds of foods. They are best grown in a container or garden, but they can also be grown in a pot.

To grow these bulbs in a container, you need to sow the seeds approximately 6 cm apart, cover them with 2 cm of soil, and keep the soil moist.

If you live in the northern part of Canada, you can grow green onions in your backyard.

In Ontario, the season is from June to mid-November, and you can harvest the green onion tops. When harvesting the green onion, be sure to cut the green tops off of the plant, leaving at least three. Do not cut off the tops too closely, because this will stall the development of the bulb.

The best time to harvest your onions is when they are dry and shriveled up. Harvesting them early allows them to store better, but be sure to water them regularly.

After harvesting, they should be placed in a clean glass, preferably with some soil, to prevent rotting. If you are growing green onions in containers, be sure to use plastic to protect them from cold and damp conditions.
