Growing Life Organic

Growing English cucumbers in Colorado requires the proper soil conditions. You will need a well-drained, moist area. The soil should be tilled about eight to 12 inches deep. Then, work the soil into beds that are 4 to 6 inches high, 36 inches apart, and no more than 24 inches wide. You may want to create ridges in the soil, especially if you live in a dry region. To grow English cukes in Colorado, make sure that the soil is drained properly.

Plant the cucumbers in hills or mounds to create a raised garden. Thinning the plants will reduce the amount of space they need to grow. To prevent the vines from wilting, tie the vines vertically to support the fruit. Use a wire cage to tie the plants, and make sure the vines are anchored properly. If you plan on growing cucumbers in a pot, you should use a trellis or cage to keep the tendrils in place. Cut the foliage when the fruits are ready.

The soil must be rich in organic matter, but do not overdo it. The pH should be six to eight. Once the soil reaches this point, cucumbers should be transplanted outdoors. Pruning is recommended for young plants, as the growth is not uniform. The resulting fruits will be large and tasty! When the plants are ready, they should be moved outdoors. You can then harvest the cucumbers and enjoy the fresh fruit!
