Salmonberry Bush Seeds

Soft and small like tiny pearls,
Salmonberry bush seeds so filled with life,
Each with its own special story,
To the earth in the winter drip-drop of rain,
Landing softly on timidly growing plants,
Now seeking sunshine and sun’s strength to arise—
Ready to fulfill their destiny among this stream’s soothing murmur.
Nature’s mysterious cycle unspools each calm night.

Description

Salmonberry bush seeds are a great choice for those interested in growing a native berry bush in their garden.

Rubus spectabilis, also known as the salmonberry, is a deciduous shrub that is native to the Pacific Northwest region of North America.

The plant is known for its delicate pink or red flowers that bloom in early spring and its orange-red berries that ripen in late spring or early summer.

Germination: Salmonberry seeds require stratification, a process of cold moist storage, to break down seed coat and induce germination. The seeds can be sown in seed trays or pots filled with seed compost and kept in a refrigerator for 2-3 months.

After stratification, sow the seeds on the surface, covering them with a thin layer of compost or vermiculite.

Place the tray or pots in a propagator or cover with a plastic bag and put them in a warm place, such as a windowsill or heated propagator.

Keep the compost moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually takes around 30-90 days.

Growing tips: Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 3in pots.

Grow them on in a greenhouse or on a sunny windowsill until all risk of frost has passed.

When planting them out, choose a sunny, well-drained spot in soil.

Space the plants about 3-5 feet apart.

Water the plants in well and keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

Salmonberry bushes are hardy and can grow in a variety of soil types, but they prefer moist, well-drained soil.

They are also tolerant of partial shade, but they will produce more fruit with more sun.

During the first few years, it’s recommended to prune the bush to promote bushier growth and more fruit production.

You can expect to harvest the berries in late spring or early summer.

The berries are sweet and juicy, making them great for eating fresh or cooking into jams, jellies, and preserves. They can also be used to make pies, syrups, and wine.

This pack contains a limited number of seeds, as they are difficult to come by, but can provide a great way to add this native berry bush in your garden.
